This revolver features a top-firing, fully blocked barrel, meaning the barrel itself is completely obstructed and does not allow gas to exit through the muzzle. When fired, gas vents upward through the top of the frame rather than forward. This top-firing design is commonly used in theatrical environments and is often preferred for controlled blank discharge during close-quarters scenes and stage performances.

The Bruni New .380 operates in double-action, allowing performers or operators to fire the revolver either by pulling the trigger or by manually cocking the hammer.
