Leading up to the American Civil War, Colt Dragoon Revolvers became highly popular. They were issued to the U.S. Army's Regiment of Mounted Rifles and the Army's "Dragoon" regiments. The revolver was created to solve the problems associated with the Colt Walker. They were also favored by civilians during the 1850s and 1860s and used during the American Civil War. The Dragoon was celebrated as a powerful firearm of its time.
